So you want to get started using Twitter for your business.
Great idea, because Twitter now has over 500 million users and many of those are your potential customers.
One of the first things to consider is why you want to use Twitter.
Know what you are trying to do and what results you are looking for. Here are a few reasons that might make sense:
- Build your brand
- Generate leads
- Promote products and services
- Connect with others in your industry
- Share articles, blogs, news, ideas, etc.
- Become the “go-to” person in your field
Once you have honed in on your mission, the next step is strategy. No matter what your “why” is for using Twitter, always remember that social media is about communication.
Twitter communication can be either direct or indirect.
When you are tweeting, retweeting, sending out content, etc. you are indirectly communicating. The same goes for your profile. Yes, your profile IS a way of communicating. You are letting people know what you look like, what you do, how you help THEM, and where they can get in touch with you. Very indirect, but very effective!
Of course, if you are tweeting with someone (having a conversation), participating in Tweet Chats, or using direct messaging, you are directly communicating with people.
This all adds up to a nice communication combination that leads to business growth.
The important thing to remember about Twitter is to make the splash you want, you have to be seen, followed, and listened to.
That’s where your strategy comes into play. You must decide the frequency of content, how often you are going to show up “live and in person,” who to follow, who to retweet, who will retweet you, which keywords you need to hashtag, etc.
The secret to getting noticed?
Headlines.
You simply must take the time to use keywords in your headlines, make them interesting (questions work great, so do lists and how-to’s) in order to be compelling enough to pick up followers. It’s not difficult, but it does take some thought. The beauty of it all? When you find something that works, use it. Again and again.
Twitter is a fantastic site to connect with prospects, find new clients, and grow your tribe. Simply make a plan, be consistent, and just DO IT!
