WordPress Rocks!

by Martha Giffen

I use WordPress for all my sites.

It’s the most popular software right now and here’s why:

It’s makes life simple because you can do-it-yourself.

It’s user-friendly format makes it easy to customize and make changes using the (again) easy control panel.  Now, keep in mind, I am not tech savvy.  Anything but!  So every time I see the word “easy” attached to something tech, I’m all about it!

WordPress has widgets.  What’s a widget? Everything you see over on my side bar is a widget.  They are plugins that allow me to customize my site easily.

Themes.  I think there are a bazillion wordpress themes out there.  Seriously, you can spend days looking at them.  I chose to use the Thesis theme and I haven’t looked back.  It’ allows me the flexibility that a non-techie needs to have an online biz.  For example, see the still pictures that I have on my page?  The ones of me and the greats?  Dr. Joe VitalePat O’Bryan, Craig Perrine, Bill Hillber, etc.?  Well, if I wanted to, I could put a video in that little box.  For now, the pictures rotate every time someone visits my site.  Pretty cool, huh?

Because I am in  the middle of the 30 day Blog Challenge, my wordpress site has another fabulous feature that I love. I am able to write ahead of time my blog posts each day and store them for later publication.  This has been the most useful tool during this challenge because I have been on the road. I don’t feel the stress of having to actually write the blog post each and every day. I write them and store them.

This feature also comes in handy in another way.  Many times, blog posts will come into my mind (or at least the titles) but I’m not quite ready to sit down and write.  Again, I just store the idea quickly into wordpress and am able to come back later when I”m ready to write!

Bottom line, if you are using something else and are happy with it, stay there.  However, if you are dissatisfied or are putting up your first site, I highly recommend you take a look at WordPress.

p.s. For those of you that want to install WordPress yourself,  WordPress 101 is a good place to start.
