It’s a fact. Unless we take action and actually do something, our business or any other dreams we have will never become successful.
Follow any leaders in their chosen field and you will find that what separates them from the people who fail, is that they simply took action.
Easier said than done.
I’ll admit. I’m as guilty as the next person. I keep a note pad with me at all times, have a big fat file labeled “ideas” but for some reason, that file grows at a faster rate than the implementation of those incredible ideas.
Let’s get honest.
How many of you have made your list, checked it twice, maybe even hired a good coach to help you achieve your goal and yet, you still don’t take action? Just can’t take that idea from your thinking cap and enthusiastically carry it through to the finish line?
Would you REALLY like to know why you’re not taking action?
Here are the most common probable causes. See if you can spot your problem here!
- Fear – There’s really no way to totally eliminate this little demon but there are ways to go around it. For one thing, know that it will happen. To everybody. At some point. The difference in the shakers and movers is they don’t let it paralyze them into inaction. It might slow the process down as you push through that inner fear, but slowing the outcome is better than no outcome! Acknowledge it and move on.
- You want it to be easy. Yes, achieving that super-sized goal will take effort and no, it’s not going to always be painless. Release your resistance, make the decision that you do want the success that will follow and (as Nike says so well) just do it!
- You don’t REALLY want the desired outcome. This will take some soul-searching. I know. You say you want to be a biz owner, but you keep making excuses as to why you haven’t started. You say you want to be a public speaker, yet you avoid booking speaking gigs. It’s possible that deep down, you don’t really want what you say you want. Think about that.
- You are waiting until you are motivated. Give this one up. Motivation usually follows action instead of the other way around. Start taking the action and see if I’m not right! The first time you give up a dessert to help your waistline isn’t fun, but once you see the pounds decrease, the motivation to continue the action is there!
Don’t let inaction stand in your way of success. Identify what is stopping you and work on that! You know what you want and it’s up to you to go out and make it happen.
In my own case, I use a coach, a couple of mastermind groups, deadlines and all sorts of props to get me going. In the end though, it’s up to me. Nobody can take the action for me.
And nobody can take it for you either!
Get out there and take some action!
