There are SO many groups on the scene now and my guess is you are a member of more than a few!
Have you paid attention to why some are thriving and others are lackluster at best? Maybe some folks have forgotten WHY people are flocking to (and some quickly exiting) Facebook groups!
Recently, I asked my own Facebook community why they join Facebook groups. While this isn’t a scientific poll and my name isn’t David Letterman, I did get ten top good reasons, so I’m sharing them here.
- To learn from others
- A source of support
- Gather new information
- Share knowledge with others
- Make friends
- Stay current on specific topics
- Nurture relationships
- Monitor competition
- Build partnerships
- Keep up-to-date with other businesses
- Increase visibility
OK, I gave you 12. Consider the last two bonuses!
Back to the purpose. Any of these reasons sound familiar? My point in making the list is to show that there are many reasons the groups are being formed. (Hint: It’s not to sell stuff!) If you are in business and using the web to grow your business, always think about why you want to join or start a group.
Used wisely, the groups are fast becoming an important aspect of any online biz plan. It’s a more intimate way of connecting.
Warning: Facebook groups are NOT a place for you to constantly promote. Seriously heed this!
Only you know how the groups can benefit you and/or your business. But the bottom line is, networking with others is always a good thing.
It’s always smart to go where the people are. And the people are in the groups!
p.s. Quick question. If you are benefiting from a FB group, could you leave your own WHY in the comments? Thanks!
