Who Else Is Talking To Automated Tweets?

Don’t get me wrong.  I like automation as well as the next person.  But enough already!  Social networking is called “social” for one reason.  It’s engaging with others.  That’s what makes it “social” for pete’s sake!

All social networks are not created equal.

I mean, different strokes for different folks.  LinkedIn is the professional’s platform.  It’s where business owners and such congregate to plan joint ventures, introduce each other to possible clients, and share info that might be relevant to their particular industry or niche.  So tell me, does it sound like a place that needs or wants to read every single shout out you give on Twitter?

And how about Facebook?

They have actually taken steps to dissuade folks from bringing everything in their Twitter stream into the Facebook world.  If you’ve noticed, in your Facebook stream, you just might see one Twitter tweet and under that see “click here for 27 more Twitter updates.”  I ask you, how many people really stop and click on those 27 updates?

Don’t get me wrong.  Automation has it’s place.

For instance, I use it in a few small doses.  Like having my blog posts tweeted out during my sleeping hours.  Or having my blog posts feed into the main streams.  But, for real conversation and engaging?  I have to be there!

Anybody else talking to automated tweets?

Sometimes they fool me.  The tweet actually looks and feels and sounds like a real person has just said it.  So, I might try to tweet back.  You know, engage in a little convo. I might even try more than one time before I realize that person is nowhere near their Twitter account and could care less about engaging!

Twitter’s a different bird!

The real beauty of Twitter is that people are “in the moment.”  Real-life conversations are going on.  Just call me dumb, but I don’t know how to be “in the moment” without being “in the moment” as in being there.

I know.  I’m a marketer too.  I love to have my links all over the place, especially on all social media sites but seriously, do I need every single word I say going to every single site?  I don’t think so!

It’s boring, redundant, AND after a while, people tune you out!

That’s right!  They won’t tell you but they aren’t reading a thing you put out there.  Because they know it’s nothing but automated links.  Tell me, which link would you prefer to click?  The one that is obviously automated or the one that the sharer of the link says, “I love this, it’s the best thing since sliced bread, you’ll love it too. And by the way, let me know what you think?” 

That person has just started engaging by adding a little value to the link.

This is not a full fledged rant!

It is a little mini-rant.  I want people to enjoy social networking.  I want everyone to see results from connecting with others.  I’m sorry, but you just can’t do that if everything you put out is automated.
