With all the followers, friends, connections, circles, likes and shares that are now part of our social media life, do you ever ask yourself, “where the heck am I going?”
You are not alone!
For starters, you can’t know where you’re headed unless you have some sort of goal in mind. You know, a destination! Preferably written with a way to gauge results.
What? There’s a purpose to this madness?
There is. And if you’ve found yourself growing your social media numbers but not really growing your business, I hate to be the one to break it to you but you’re doing something wrong. Or at least, partially wrong.
Every tweet, follow, friend request, page like, etc. should be leading toward your goal of increased business. That’s the destination.
Is it all about sales?
Yes and no. Ultimately, you have to sell something to stay afloat. You have to sell more to continue to grow. And, you have to sell truckloads to hit easy street.
But here’s the catch. . . .
You don’t really “sell” through the social media platforms. Do I need to say that again? Oh, you promote. You market. But selling? It’s done after the marketing. After you’ve given out great content and shown you are an expert in your niche. Think of the marketing as the “getting to know you” stage.
All communications eventually lead to your list and your list is where you get cozy. It’s the final layer where the rubber meets the road. I guess you can see it’s where the action is.
Because you now have built a relationship. You have earned the right to offer your products. To help solve their problems. To make their life easier.
And to reach your own destination!
Now, is it a little clearer where you’re going?
Follow and connect with people that make sense. Help them along the way. And then, enjoy the ride!
