Secret Fears That Will Kill Your Business

I’m not talking about those big, heavy hitting fears like public speaking, death, or taxes.  I mean the daily grind.

The things left undone.  Put off.  Pushed aside.

We’ve all have them!

Those tasks we don’t do that would catapult us forward like lightening.  We hang back.

It could be anything.  Finishing that e-book.  Learning that critical technical skill.  Completing that sales page.  Making an all-important phone call.

No matter where we line up in the success parade, there are things that stop us from achieving what we know we are capable of.

It’s a common thread.

Quite frankly, it’s a human dilemma.  While I’m not sure about the why part, I do know that to get it done requires taking action and (here’s the kicker) I’m talking taking action when you don’t feel like it.

Reality Check . . .

I don’t know where your comfort zone stops, but you do.  Any task that will push you toward your dream and is stopping you is outside that zone. You know it’s true.  It’s out there in the scary-with-a-capital-S zone!  I know.  Even the most simple of tasks, if they hold you back, seem frightening.

They’re not.

What’s scary is that fear associated with it.  Guess what?  That fear can be divided into two categories: 1) Fear of Failure; or 2) Fear of Success.

That’s it.

The only two choices you get.

Only you know which one it is.

The challenge . . ..

Write down your worst case scenario if  you fail and the best case outcome if you succeed.

Which one scares you?

Lest you think I’m going to give you some kind of magic key to unlock the secret of your own success in this blog post, I assure you I’m not.  Only you know the answer to why you are holding yourself back.

Success or failure?

It’s all in your hands!

I’m afraid of failure! What if no one comes to my seminar stops me from completing my newsletter, sales page, etc. But if I don’t do those, failure is guaranteed!

Very interesting perspective, Martha. I’ve actually written both of them down, and realize it’s not really the potential of failing that scares me the most. It’s the success. To be more specific, keeping that success going. There is always that sinking fear that whatever success I get is just out of sheer luck and that it will never happen again. Guess I need a bit more on the confidence department.

There is also the fear of being judged and the fear of being controlled.
Any of these fears can be conquered and transformed with EFT

You know Martha: Fear of Success had me for a bit… till I changed that mindset. Stopped listening to those voices telling me negative things about me. It is a journey, that is for sure and I kinda think it’s a place all new business owners need to persevere through… Thanks for a great post!

I’m glad you are saying it. People seem so shocked when they hear fear of success can be the show stopper, but we both know, it really CAN be!

Hi Martha! Great post! I tried to comment once before and the computer ate it somehow, so if two show up, sorry.

I’m a constant “work in progress” in all areas of life, LOL, stepping outside my comfort zone in business being one of them. A quote I have hanging on my bulletin board is: “The greatest mistake you can make in life is to continually be afraid you will make one.” Elbert Hubbard

Go for it and grow is my motto. There are always lessons to be learned from our failures, the goal is to just learn them once and move on :)
