First, I want to go on the record as saying deadlines work. Second, I want to say that they work like charms for me.
But not in a good way. I mean, the adrenaline rush is almost too much!
Take today for instance. I am working on not one, but three projects simultaneously. And they all had deadlines. And I knew it. But, for some reason I chose to operate in manic mode right before countdown to the deadline.
I ask you, does “under the gun” somehow entice me?
I enjoy what I do. I run an online business and I have the opportunity to work from home. I don’t have to get dressed up, endure a commute, or have a boss breathing down my neck. Online marketing is fun and I realize I am one lucky lady.
So why go into pressure cooker mode?
Here’s my answer. Or the best one I can come up with.
I have somehow convinced myself that my creativity flourishes when I’m under the gun.
Yes, I am in awe of all you business owners who plan out your whole quarter (or year!) and do exactly what’s on your calendar every day leading up to your product launches. For some reason, I find that bit of “authority” (like my own calender could somehow have authority over me!) daunting.
I do have a regular daily schedule for all the routine tasks that the biz demands but when I’m in creative mode, everything else stops, I get laser focused, and I work like a maniac to the finish line.
Don’t do as I do. . . . .
I’m not recommending this practice, just observing. And I felt like sharing it with you today.
I usually operate in a very mundane, organized way but put that deadline within reach and watch out! I’ll mow you over getting to the finish line!
p.s. Stay tuned. There’s some great products coming down the pipe!
