How much thought have you put into yours? Or, are you thinking, what the heck is that?
Simply put, they are the current buzzwords circulating around the web that you probably should take quite seriously. Or at least, understand what all the hoopla is about!
Remember how your parents talked to you, growing up, about your reputation? How it would last a lifetime, needed to be paid attention to, and could easily be torn down in an instant?
That pretty much sums it up!
But what does that have to do with my business, you ask? Or being online?
The same thing. Your online reputation is about your credibility. Or lack of. And, -how fast it can all spread. Or change.
Here’s a few pointers:
- Promotions – If you promote a product, be darn sure it’s one you’ve actually used! If it doesn’t deliver and you’ve recommended it, well. . . egg on your face will be only one of your problems!
- Permanent is permanent. The internet is permanent. THINK before you publish! Not just in your social media postings and blog posts, but in responding to comments too. This is a no-brainer in my book, but there are many who have lived to regret online postings done in haste, anger, or in a flip way. In other words, watch yourself.
- Be truthful. Again, this one begs to go without saying, but let’s face it. There are some manipulators out there who will say anything and everything to get you to follow them. And buy from them. However, NOTHING will ruin your good name and the reputation of your company than not being honest. Draw the line in the sand. Decide on the front end to tell the truth. It always wins out.
- Tone is important. Who knew? The written word carries energy and you’ve seen it. How many have looked at a Facebook update and thought, “wow, that person is having a rotten day?” Or worse, “those posts are always so negative, I’m unfollowing immediately!” Sarcastic, mean, and arrogant don’t play well. Nor do whiney, needy, or complaining.
Here’s the thing . . .
YOU are in charge. You decide what to put “out there” on the web. You choose what your reputation will be. Others simply carry the word, good or bad, to their own playground.
It’s not rocket science.
Your online reputation will grow right along with your web presence.
If you are a constant stream of “look at me” or “buy my stuff,” change it now. Before it’s too late.
You know the drill. It’s always about them! Spread informative, interesting, and helpful content and conversation and they will spread the word about YOU!
Where does it lead?
To more clients, bigger opportunities, increased credibility, and a stellar and profitable business.
Go out there and get your online reputation going!
