There’s no way around it. The central drive in your business will depend on how well you network.
Offline, online, makes no difference. It always boils down to who you know.
Today, I flew into Austin, Texas for Pat O’Bryan‘s Unseminar8. I’ve already mentioned more than once that the great thing about seminars is the networking. It’s still true.
One of the speakers this year is Warren Whitlock, a social media and marketing expert. I was lucky enough to be seated across from him today at lunch. We had never met and I can tell you this, I learned plenty!
It started with a T-Shirt . . . .
Warren Whitlock walked into the restaurant wearing a T-shirt with one line: @WarrenWhitlock How’s that for self-promotion? I told you, I was learning.
The conversation at lunch was even better. While talking about Twitter, I asked him which tools he used. His answer stunned me. “All of them.”
He is a techie. Pure and simple. He has tried all Twitter tools and uses every one he can. He actually enjoys all things tech so trying all the tools is fun for him. And educational for me. Now I know where to go for any advice I might need on Twitter tools.
Warren also made a pretty profound statement that I have already committed to memory: “If you can tell the difference between your work and play, you are doing something wrong.” He is passionate about his work. So, it feels like playing all day long. How’s that for inspiration?
Yes, I do like networking. And today I was networking with one of the best!
p.s. I almost forgot the best part. . . . . . any tips I get from Warren regarding social media, I will be sure and pass on to you. Stay tuned!
