Do you know what the domino effect is?
It’s where you stand the dominoes up in a line, close together, but not touching. When you tap the first one in the lineup forward, it forces the next one to fall and so on. They all end up falling in sequence. Just from one touch.
That’s how I think of mentors. Like Dominoes.
If you look at any good coach or mentor who is worth their weight, they have a mentor. And their mentor has a mentor. And that mentor has a mentor. And on and on.
That’s the order of success. You can watch it trickle down one to another. Just like touching the first domino. It has to touch the second, that has to touch the third, and so on.
All of the greats were mentored by someone.
In the celebrity world, Usher learned from Michael Jackson, Dr. Phil learned how to have a talk-show under the mentoring of Oprah, and even Bill Gates himself is mentored by Warren Buffett.
And what do most good mentees do next? They became mentors themselves! That’s how it works. Once you glean all the successful tools of your own mentor, you turn around and mentor someone else. It’s a beautiful picture of expansion of the human mind. Expansion of creative forces. Evolution, if you will.
Now, I know it may seem hard to imagine at this point, but eventually you too will become the mentor. The sought-after “expert” with knowledge to share with another. Some of you may be at that point now. If so, create your coaching program and start promoting!
My own mentor is Pat O’Bryan, author of Your Portable Empire and all things “un.” As in, unwebinars, unseminars, uninterviews, etc.
I am in his coaching program Portable Empire Coaching To say that has had the most impact on my business would be an understatement. I have benefited from his experience. And, he truly wants me to succeed. Why? Because, like any really good mentor, that’s what floats his boat. That’s why they do it. To give back.
But, I want to point out a very important factor. Pat will be the first to tell you he has a mentor. Joe Vitale. And Joe will tell you he has a mentor, and on and on. So, by learning from Pat, you could say I have the benefit of all the lined up dominoes. All the mentoring that has trickled down that pipe landed on me. How awesome is that?
Now, I want you to hear this loud and clear. After you have soaked up all you can from your mentor, turn around and become the mentor to someone else. Who knows? You may stumble on a whole new business model for yourself!
I am honored to be the next domino in line behind Pat O’Bryan. And I look forward to seeing who will be next in line behind me!
p.s. Don’t forget! Tomorrow’s blog will feature a rockstar guest!
p.s. Anybody figure it out yet??
