The Kardashians, Twitter, and Your Business

by Martha on August 22, 2010

If you were wondering what in the world Twitter could ever do for your business, tonight is the night to learn!  The Kardashian sisters (from the reality show) are Twittering live during the season premier of their show.

What does this have to do with your and your biz?

It’s all about promotion!

They are masterfully keeping the hype for their show going during the show and using Twitter to do it. Call it a Twittter party, Tweet party, or whatever you like.  They are using the hashtag #KUWTK (keeping up with the Kardashians) and within minutes of the show’s beginning, the hashtag was a worldwide trending topic.

Does any of this make sense?

Let me explain. . . . .

A hashtag (#) is used before or after a tweet to group together people who are interested in the same topic.  Trending topics are on the Twitter sidebar and gage the top topics people are twittering about.  Soooo, what this means is that enough people are tweeting using the Kardashians’  hashtag #KUWTK that they have now becoming a trending topic.

Got it?

What does it all mean?

It simply means that Twitter can be used as an awesome promotional tool, that hashtags could be important, and that Twitter is now very mainstream.

In other words. . . . .

As I have been telling you for quite some time, you need to be participating in social media, if you’re not already.  And, Twitter is the quickest and easiest way to get out there!

No matter what you think about the Kardashians (and, no doubt, there will be some that have never heard of them), they are one step ahead of the crowd tonight.  Using Twitter to promote their product while making their product!

It’s clever.  It’s cool.

I’m amazed how many folks are turning to Twitter. Dr. Laura just announced that she is going to become a “Twit” as she called it…. as soon as she can find someone to teach her how to “Tweet.”

By the way…. Twitter has just announced they are coming to Utah and setting up a part of their “Shop.” They, along with Adobe Photoshop, and E-Bay will be housed 20 miles from my home.
