I just heard. There’s the DJ, the VJ, and now the T (as in Twitter) J.
It came from MTV but it’s not new. It’s not quite original either. But calling it a TJ (twitter jockey) is pretty clever!
It all has to do with the Twitter stream and who can grab hold of an audience. Engage with them. Keep them entertained and wanting more.
And now there’s a name for it. Twitter Jockey.
I like the name and I love the concept.
Basically, the TJ will report all things MTV during a big event. The first assignment of the first TJ is to report on the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, on September 12.
We saw earlier this week how popular reality TV star, Kim Kardashian used Twitter to engage an audience during the premier of her show. MTV will not be outdone.
Twitter is still very new and totally evolving!
The possibilities of using Twitter for your website or product promotion are endless. Do not think for one minute that the emergence of some of the big dog companies in any way diminishes what you are trying to do. Oh contraire.
Take a lesson. Whatever techniques they use, you can use also. And keep this in mind: Right now, social media sites, like Twitter, are free to use.
What am I saying?
If you want to become the Twitter Jockey for your company, go ahead. If you want to elicit a frequent Twitter user to help your cause, go ahead. If you want to be called a Twitter party host, go ahead.
Are you getting my drift?
The sky’s the limit! Use Twitter for your highest good. Use it wisely and the rewards will be plentiful.
There’s always good news!
You already understand what a Twitter party is, how it can benefit you, and you can start one.
MTV and it’s new TJ has nothing on you.
Get going, become the Twitter Jockey you were meant to be!
Peace,
-Martha

Since I’m a one-person company, looks like I just got a new hat to wear — TJ — so cute! Thanks for this, Martha. I hadn’t heard it yet and I agree, it’s a good one. I don’t tweet as much as I’d like but I do at least a couple of times a day.
Always enjoy your blog!
Evelyn
I love the name–Twitter Jockey! It’s taking me some time to really get the feeling of Tweets, but I think having someone (or me!) with a role to play makes a lot of sense for events, parties, and causes.
What a great term. It really makes the game fun.
Twitter can be addicting…I love looking at the sites others are tweeting about. It is like a mystery tour.
Awesome! I love Twitter and being a part of the different communities like #blogboost and #eventprofs. It is amazing what a hashtag can do. It even creates TJs.
I love the term Twitter Jockey too and you’ve given me some food for thought . . . now I need to go sit with it and get creative!
Who KNEW? So glad I could pass this new opportunity on to all of you! Twitter is what’s happening and as it keeps evolving, there will be more ways to promote our businesses. Good luck to you all
I am new to twitter, well new to using my account, and I’m still trying to find my groove. This article gave me some great ideas.
Thanks
Linette, It can be pretty intimidating when you first start out! You might want to begin here: http://BestTweetTips.com Also, follow me on twitter and I’ll follow you back. Always glad to help new Twitterers!
This is way cool, Martha. Howie Mandel does the same thing during America’s Got Talent. He is always tweeting what is going on during the show and tons of people are tweeting him about contestants.
I don’t think people become as engaged if you are tweeting about your own website. Like you mention, if you and a few friends began tweeting about each other’s websites, that is a whole different thing.
You have given me a completely new idea about twitter. Thanks!

Hi Martha,
What a hoot! So, you must be an MTV watcher, what with Lady Gaga and now TJ.
I love it.
You always keep us in the know! You’re the best…
and you ROCK!
LOL Deb! It does look like that but, I actually read about this online and also learned, while doing my research, that they conducted an online twitter search to pick who the first twitter jockey would be. Apparently, there was a contest and contestants had to show their Twitter savvy. I learned about that part too late! LOL
