In a nutshell, it could mean the difference in a prosperous business or one with lackluster profits.
Bottom line is, your prospects have to be able to find you. Best way for that to happen is to take the time to build a powerful online visibility to operate at peak performance.
My own experience . . .
I distinctly remember the first time someone said, “I see you everywhere online.” That was a nice feather in my cap but I had also noticed that my business had picked up momentum. People were wanting to work with me because they had seen or heard about me somewhere on the web!
You can do it!
My clients come from all types of businesses. From the travel industry, to social media managers, from copywriters, to kitchen designers. You name it. It literally makes no difference what your business is. I tell them all the same thing. If you are neglecting your online presence (or worse, have NO visibility), you are leaving money on the table.
What does Online Visibility encompass?
For starters, here’s a quick list:
- Your own website
- Your blog
- Guest blog appearances by you
- Your social media presence (includes, but not limited to: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.)
- Articles written by you
- Online groups and forums you participate in
- Online groups, chats, or hangouts you lead
- Interviews, teleseminars, webinars, etc.
In short, it’s everywhere you can be seen online. The more places, the more powerful your online visibility!
The ocean is deep and wide
Why it’s more important now than ever before . . .
The world of business has changed. Not actual business itself. That remains simple. People purchasing your products or services for a fee. What has changed is how they find you.
People start their searches for what you offer online. It’s not enough to have a website anymore. And, the old way of thinking of “build it and they will come” never worked anyway. With a large online presence, folks are able to find you easily.
Make no mistake, finding you is half the battle. You still have to take an active role in securing business, but it won’t be as difficult!
A few guidelines when building your online presence:
- All photos and logos need to be the same
- Your message should be clear, concise, and consistent
- Make it easy for others to share your message by having social share buttons on your site
I know. It can seem more than a little overwhelming. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be done overnight. The sooner the better, but you can take your time to make sure your message is seen. Once you get the foundation set up and become consistent with spreading the word, your visibility grows.
And, can you say online visibility equals online profitability?
