Ideas Are A Dime A Dozen

by Martha on August 20, 2010

Anybody else have a folder full of great ideas?  Maybe not in the physical, like mine, but stored in your brain?  You know, those wonderful thoughts that begin with the words “what if?”

One of my favorite places to let ideas take root is in phone conversations with other entrepreneurs.  We usually begin by talking about our projects or some biz endeavor and as the conversation rolls along, new ideas begin to swirl.

We bat them around, making them bigger, momentum takes over and all of a sudden, by the time I hang up, I’ve got a fabulous new idea for a product, a project, or new biz strategy.

OK, great.  Now what?

The excitement begins with the new idea and the momentum starts with the energy of the other person.  However, unless I take action (and I do mean pretty immediate action here!), nothing really is accomplished.

It just becomes another great idea.  Flat.  Sitting all by itself in the world of coulda, woulda, shoulda.

You see, ideas are swirling around you constantly.  They come from other people, from something you hear on mass media, from an interesting story you read online, ANYWHERE.

Ideas are EVERYWHERE!

There’s never a shortage.  If you think about it long enough, you will know it to be true.

The shortage is in the action.  The willingness to step up and do something!

Make it happen.

Start paying attention to the ideas that excite you.  The ideas that you know you can run with. Do not stop.  Do not pass go.  Do NOT hesitate.  (for that’s where the breakdown is and that’s where the non-successful people live)

Start the action immediatly.  That’s what it’s all about.

Not the ideas.

They are a dime a dozen.

The action?

It’s worth pure gold.

Now, go get busy!

Peace,

Martha

Martha,

A friend of mine used to say “there is nothing to it but to do it.” It’s not always that easy but getting in the game makes all the difference. Thanks for the motivating post.

You are right, it’s all about action at the end of the day. Some things really are Black or White.
I’ve had hundreds of ideas in my lifetime but acted on very few, however once you start making it your habit – it gets easier and easier to act on ANYTHING…

Nice post

Chris, I guess there’s a reason the slogan “just do it” is so popular. It’s so much harder than it sounds!
Keith, don’t beat yourself up. . . . we’ve ALL had hundreds of ideas. Now that you know about making action your habit, you’re on your way!! Thanks for your comments :)

I have been attending a seminar on finances. It is taught by a man that goes into big companies and helps the owners get all their finances under control so they can go and fulfill their purpose..

What he found is that these people at the top had ideas galore! Some ideas were worth pursuing and others were not. He had us do what he tells them to do. Make a file for each idea and list what it would take to get the idea off the ground. Then as those parts come in put them into the folder. Now review those ideas and see which ones you can bring to fruition, Drop the ones that do not pan out. And get busy on the ones that will work.
