Guest blogging is on the rise. And why not? It’s a great way to increase your readership and overall visibility on the web. One of the experts in the area of guest blogging is Erica Douglass of Erica.biz.
I met Erica for the first time back in 2008 when she was a speaker at one of Pat O’Bryan‘s Unseminars. She had recently sold the hosting company she built from the ground up for $1.2 million. That got my attention, of course, but (get this!) she was only 26 at the time!
Got YOUR attention now?
Erica has since gone on to help new entrepreneurs learn the ins and outs of biz start-ups with her popular blog and many products and services. The coolest thing about Erica? She usually teaches by letting people see exactly what she’s doing. While she’s doing it. Not after the fact.
Along the way, she’s become an expert at being a guest blogger and teaches others how to do the same. She is the creator of Guest Post Secrets and I was lucky enough to catch up with her recently and pick her brain about what I thought were the most pressing questions facing bloggers wanting to get into the guest blogging game.
Our conversation. . . . .
Martha: Why is guest blogging so important?
Erica: Guest posting on other blogs is important to build your profile online. It’s the easiest way for people to get to know you — and it carries an added weight over article marketing because a well-known, reputable blogger is introducing you to his or her community.
Martha: Who should be guest blogging?
Erica: Anyone who wishes to raise his or her profile online and build a community (a “tribe”) should be guest posting on a regular basis – at least once a month.
Martha: What does the “ideal” guest post look like?
Erica: I look for certain characteristics when people ask to guest post on my blog. First, I want to read a blog post that’s informative and useful. It should be at least 500 words — 1000 is better. It shouldn’t be overly self-promotional. (Go easy on the links to your own blog and products.) It should be directly related to the topics my readers want to read about. And finally, it should include a personal story or learning experience so that people can relate to you.
Martha: How can guest blogging boost your biz?
Erica: Guest posting is truly an amazing way to build your audience. It is time-consuming, but if you do a lot of guest posts, especially for extremely popular blogs, people will know who you are and what you’re all about online.
There you have it!
Erica is a sought-after guest post blogger because she is a walking, talking, bottle of information. Her advice is always great and she is passionate about helping others learn how to use the web and their web pages to have a profitable online biz.
Happy guest post blogging!
