How many of you leave comments on other blogs? And how many of you have your profile picture show up beside your comment? If you already have a gravatar, good for you. If you don’t know what a gravatar is, read on.
What’s a gravatar and why do I need one?
A gravatar is the little square picture that shows up when you leave comments on other blogs. If yours is a cartoon picture of some creature you’ve never seen or heard of, then I’m talking to you!
If you don’t know how to get your profile picture there, I’ll tell you that in a minute. If you do know how and just haven’t taken the time to do it, shame on you. Tell me this, if you went to visit someone in the offline world, would you wear a disguise? Or a mask? I don’t think so!
Here’s what to do. . . . .
Just hop on over to Gravatar.com (it’s free), sign up and upload your picture. It’s that easy! In their own words, “it’s an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog.” From that point on, whenever you leave a comment, your uploaded picture will show up.
This puts a real face with your comments, gives your comment more credibility, and increases your web visibility.
Now, go out there and give some blog love with your comments and put that new gravatar to good use!
