You’ve all heard of it.
What is a niche and why do you need one?
Your niche is what your business specializes in. Your area of expertise. It’s the market that your product fits into.
For example, this blog is in the internet marketing niche. Or the “how to make money online” niche. Your niche could be anything. Scrapbooking, self-help, golf, gardening, parenting, you name it. Whatever market you have decided to sell to is your niche.
A word to the wise about niches: Keep breaking it down. Go for the smaller markets within the big picture.
Don’t try to be everything to everybody. It just doesn’t work. You will spend more time than necessary and the profits will not be forthcoming. Decide what your business really is and market to that group!
Again, I use my own market to make a point. Although I am in the internet marketing niche, I help the newcomer! My products and services are geared for the very new online business owner. The person who may not have even decided on their niche yet!
Believe me, this niche is large. Very. And there are some big players. My point with that? Don’t be scared to go into a niche with the big boys. I”m not stepping on their toes. I compliment what they are doing. I get new online business owners (that follow my lead) up and running quickly, with the least amount of stress. I guide the new people. The ones that want the step-by-step processes broken down easily.
That said, I could even break it down further. Like this: Women marketers, babyboomer women marketers, babyboomer women marketers who are tech challenged, and on and on. You get the picture! The smaller your niche in the overall market, the more likely you are to be the “expert.”
Yes, I am an “expert” to anyone starting an online business. I’ve already been where you are going. Lived to tell about it and make your path a little less bumpy.
OK, let’s say you haven’t chosen your niche yet.
There is a great train of thought on this one: Go with your passion!
There is something that you know ALOT about. You are good at it. You like it. You are passionate about it! That is your niche. Build your business around that!
And, if you have any questions. . . . . . you know where to find me!
