Anybody else hate having their picture taken? Well, if you have an online business, you have to get over that and start saying “Cheese!”
Like it or not, you are the face of your business. And, your smile needs to be seen. In as many places as you can put it!
The Do’s and Don’ts. . . . .
Do have a picture made by someone who knows what they are doing. It doesn’t have to be a professional photographer, but you do need the picture to be clear and (ok, this goes without saying) flattering.
Do smile. How many of you have gone to great websites or blogs where the owner writes about happiness and positivity only to see a profile picture with someone who looks a little less-than-happy? Come on now. Smile for the camera!
Do try and use the same picture for all your social media. It will help give you recognition. If you are wondering how to do that, go to Gravatar.com, upload a picture and every time you leave a comment somewhere, that same picture will show up. It’s great!
These are a little trickier. . . . .
Don’t put anyone else in your picture. I know. You love your husband, kids, grandkids, etc. but you are running a business. Look like it.
Don’t put a picture of yourself from 10 years ago. Keep it current. When someone meets you in person, you want them to recognize you. Not think you are your older sibling. Or worse, your parent!
Don’t wear white. It just blends into the scenery and you tend to get lost. Pick out a bright color.
Ready to say “Cheese?”
I feel like there’s one other point I need to stress. Remember the old saying, “dress for success?” It’s still true.
Even in our quest to be casual, you should always be aware when you are at seminars, workshops, industry meetings, etc. that someone will inevitably have a camera. On their phone. To upload your picture immediately to Facebook. Or Twitter. Enough said. (Of course, my readers are always well-groomed and smiling!)
OK, enough of that. You know what to do now.
