To Blog Or Not To Blog

by Martha Giffen

Do you have a social media marketing strategy?

Do you think that just includes updating your Facebook and Twitter accounts?

How many of you know that blogging is just as much social media as anything else in that category?

I almost took a break!

Today being Sunday and all and the day I reserve for family, I was tempted to take a day off from the Ultimate Blog Challenge.  You know the one.  Where I’m committed to write a blog every day during the month of January.

Of course, it would be alright if I didn’t blog today.  After all, the day is almost over.  In many parts of the world, it’s already Monday!  Nobody would blame me if I skipped a day and nobody would call me out.

Here’s why I’m doing it:

Social media is a huge part of my marketing strategy.  I do something every single day to increase my business through social media.  And, blogging is one of my favorites.

Think blogging isn’t in the social media realm?  Think again.

The purpose of your blog is to communicate with your readers.  You begin by laying out the content in an interesting way and if your readers add comments, or send e-mails, the conversation continues.  It’s wonderful!

Don’t confuse social media with social networking!

In your marketing strategy, you need a good mix of all types of social media.  This is not the same as social networking.  Blogs are one of the platforms you use to get your information out.  Social networking is how you bring people to your blogging platform!  Make sense?

In any case, I didn’t want to neglect my blog for even one day during the challenge because I happen to think I have something interesting to tell ya’ll every single day.  (at least this month!)

In the scope of things. . . .

It may not matter whether you see blogging as social media or not.  But for some reason, I felt like setting the record straight tonight.

Have a good one!
